Decades ago, Midtown was a vibrant Asian ethnic enclave in Houston, with Pho Saigon standing as one of the few remaining Vietnamese businesses today. Since opening over 25 years ago, this restaurant has become a steadfast destination for pho lovers and an iconic presence in the neighborhood.

From the outside, Pho Saigon may appear unassuming, but the interior reveals a surprisingly spacious dining area filled with an extensive array of tables and chairs. The atmosphere during lunch is lively, particularly on days with nice weather, though it tends to be quieter during dinner hours and on weekends.

My overall rating for the food would be around 3.5 out of 5. While some dishes, like the limp goi cuon, lackluster bun thit nuong, and uneventful banh mi, were forgettable, the pho dac biet stood out with its hearty mix of meats and a clear, aromatic broth. The cha gio were notably lengthy and satisfying, and the caphe sua da struck a perfect balance of sweetness and caffeine.

Service here is efficient, easily accommodating various group sizes. Although parking in the dedicated lot can be challenging on busy days, street parking is a viable alternative. The pricing is reasonable for the area, and the quality of takeout and delivery is commendable. I hope Pho Saigon continues to thrive and serve as a cultural landmark in this part of Houston for many years to come.

Pho Saigon is my ultimate comfort food destination for pho. I've visited at least six times in recent months, and it consistently delivers great quality, generous portions, and excellent value—unmatched by any other place in Houston.

For those who prefer leaner meat, I recommend the Pho Tai. If you're looking for something heartier, the Pho Dac Biet comes loaded with both noodles and meats, and the broth is notably more flavorful than what you'll find elsewhere.

The atmosphere at Pho Saigon is laid-back, with plenty of seating available even during busy times. Typically, you can expect to wait only about 5-10 minutes from the moment you sit down until you're enjoying delicious pho, making it the perfect spot for a quick meal.

Don't forget to specify if you need your pho without cilantro!

Pho Saigon has been my go-to pho spot for over a decade. The consistency is something I can always rely on, and the broth brings a comforting, nostalgic feel that I deeply appreciate.

Service here is usually quick, especially when it comes to serving the pho. The egg rolls might take a little longer when it's busy; on my last visit, they actually forgot our egg roll order, but these things happen. I’ve also tried ordering through DoorDash when I couldn’t leave the house. While convenient, it just doesn’t capture the same essence as dining in.

The ambiance has a cozy, late 90s vibe which I really enjoy. It doesn’t seem like much has changed over the years, and that’s part of its charm. They’ve updated to new menus, replacing the old flip spiral booklets, which is a small but exciting change.

Parking in the plaza can be tricky, but there's additional parking upstairs, which is helpful during busier times.

Pho Saigon is a fantastic pho spot! I was in Houston for the weekend and needed some soup to warm up on a chilly day. The service was excellent, and the food arrived quickly.

  1. Cha Gio - The Vietnamese egg rolls were delicious. I appreciated the mix of shrimp and pork inside. They were fried to a perfect crispiness, making them an excellent starter.

  2. Pho Tai - The broth was rich and flavorful, and the eye round steak was wonderfully cooked. I opted for the large bowl, which was very satisfying and filling. It came with plenty of bean sprouts, Thai basil, and jalapeños to mix in. YUM!

It's been really cold lately, and I was in desperate need of something warm, so naturally, pho came to mind!

Parking at the restaurant is usually quite limited, but I got lucky this time and snagged a spot right in front.

The service here is always impressive; they're quick to get your food and drinks, offer refills, and help with anything you need.

I always opt for the Pho Tai Bo Vien, and it never disappoints! The pho is consistently delicious here and more affordable than other places nearby.

If you're in the area and craving pho, this is definitely a great choice!

The broth was flavorful and perfectly seasoned—not too salty, which is a huge win for me! The portions are a bit smaller than I'm used to; back in Toronto, with its large Vietnamese community, you can order pho in sizes from small to extra large. The large at Pho Saigon is more like a medium by Toronto standards! Here, it's definitely a case of quality over quantity.

The service was efficient and met my expectations. Also, the restaurant was surprisingly spacious inside, a stark contrast to its modest exterior. If you're looking for top-notch pho and don't mind slightly smaller servings, Pho Saigon is a great choice!

With freezing temperatures on the horizon this week, I knew I had to indulge in one of my favorite cold-weather foods!

Despite the restaurant being busier than usual, we were seated fairly quickly. They offer an extensive menu with a variety of chicken, beef, and vegetable-based pho broths, making it a very inclusive place. We ordered two different types of beef-based pho, shrimp spring rolls, a salted lemon drink, and green tea.

The pho and drinks arrived within a reasonable time frame. The pho was just what we needed to combat the cold and brace for the freeze ahead! It was a generous serving of rich, flavorful broth that was absolutely delicious. The salted lemon drink was a new experience for me; it started as a nice contrast to the pho but eventually became a bit overwhelming.

The only hiccup was that our spring rolls were forgotten until after we finished our pho. We had to remind the staff, who fortunately brought them out before we left, likely an oversight due to the busyness of the place.
